Coronavirus: 283 new cases, no deaths (updated)

No new coronavirus deaths were reported by the ministry of health on Sunday, although a total of 283 new cases were found.

The number who have died as a result of Covid remains 231.

The new cases were found among 45,231 tests, both PCR and rapid.

The finding of 283 cases is equivalent to a positivity rate of 0.63 per cent, and brings the total number found so far to 34,707.

Of the 45,231 tests carried out on Sunday 1,575 were PCR and 43,656 rapid.

Among 534 contacts of Covid cases 104 tested positive as did 12 people among 587 who took a test on private initiative.

A further six cases were found out of 150 tests carried out at the Microbiology labs at the general hospitals.

From the rapid tests a total of 161 new cases were found.

A total of 17,613 rapid tests were taken in Nicosia among which 42 positives were found (0.24 per cent), while in Limassol 94 cases were found among 12,697 tests (0.74 per cent), in Larnaca 6,462 tests found 14 cases (0.22 per cent), in Paphos 3,671 tests resulted in 10 positives (0.27 per cent) and in Famagusta one new case was found among 1,913 tests (0.05 per cent). A total of 1,243 tests were carried out in the National Guard with no cases found.

Earlier the government contact tracing team said between February 20 and 26 a total of 13 chains were identified, seven of which were found in Limassol and five in Nicosia.

A total of 88 people are being treated in hospital, 24 of whom are in a serious condition.

Of the 24 patients, 13 are intubated, one is in an intensive care unit but not intubated, while 10 are in high dependency units.

The Famagusta hospital is currently treating 24 Covid patients, while 22 are under the care of Nicosia general, 41 Limassol general and one a the Makarios hospital.
