Noise pollution in Protaras centre causes great concern to hoteliers

While players in Cyprus’ tourism industry are trying hard to attract quality tourism and limit the damage sparked by the pandemic and the loss of the Russian market noise pollution appears to be their new enemy.

Protaras hoteliers say owners of bars and open-air clubs in the heart of the popular resort are having their music so high and for so long that make it impossible for anyone to sleep.

And that this is possible because they can take advantage of loopholes in the legislation, Philenews reported on Monday.

Hoteliers are warning that if the situation is not corrected immediately they will see more and more  tourists leaving the island with very negative reviews on platforms such as booking.com and TripAdvisor.

These platforms, one also said, play a big role in bookings and in shaping the image of a tourist destination.
