WORK HOURS:       Full-time (40 hours/week).  Availability for evening and weekend work is required.
SALARY:                  20,434.00 birr per month  
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Fixed term contract until the employer permanently departs post or until one-month prior notice is provided by either the employer or the employee or the employee is dismissed for cause. Probationary Period – 60 workdays  
EMPLOYER: The U.S. Embassy Chief of Mission; not the U.S. Embassy. As a personal employee of the Chief of Mission the terms and conditions provided for the U.S. Government employees don’t govern this employment.  
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION  

The House Manager (Residence Manager) is responsible for all routines, schedules and standards affecting the overall appearance and functioning of the residence. 

Creates, maintains and ensures that household guides and checklists are followed.

Responsible for the outcome of all events and activities. In close collaboration with the Head Chef/Culinary Team Lead, manages timelines and the look and feel of events from planning to clean-up. Anticipates and solves problems. Leads post-event discussions.

Ensures that menus and guest name cards are printed and accurate. 

Greets guests. Maintains guestbook.   

Responsible for financial accounting for official events. Coordinates with Office Manager and Chief of Mission to ensure proper reimbursements.

Supervises the culinary and caretaking staff. Supervises temporary event staff.

Oversees the work of the gardener and other contractors responsible for external representational spaces. 

Responsible for interior plants and botanical arrangements.  Assists with kitchen garden. 

Assists all other staff, including kitchen staff and housekeeping staff as needed.  

Responsible for pet care as appropriate. 

Oversees ongoing representational supply inventory. 

Coordinates repairs.  Serves as liaison to mission sections including the FMO, GSO, RSO, and the Health Unit. With permission, coordinates Motor Pool

Responsible for remembering requests and preferences.


Responsible for reporting any and all safety and security concerns. 
Responsible for administering First Aid as needed.  The House Manager will supervise 3 employees and Reports to the Ambassador.  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Required Education:  Completion of high schoolis required.

Required Experience:  At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in managing daily operations of household including managing house staff; coordinating official events and functions; working independently and as a team and taking responsibility for outcomes. Experience teaching, mentoring and inspiring others in the household. Can demonstrate clear thinking, excellent decision making, collaborating, communicating, and problem-solving under pressure. Experience using good judgment and having good intuition. Experience reporting problems and anomalies. Must be literate and numerate. Proficient in technology– perform searches, use email, create and save documents. 

Language Requirement:  Excellent skills in speaking and listening English and Amharic are required. (This may be tested) Skills and

Abilities:   Good customer service. Ability to build team spirit and perform as a good member and leader of a group. Basic computer skills and high level of communication and ability to work under stressful situation are required. Be adaptable to a frequently changing schedule, including evening and weekend work.
