Ashley Cole hints at joining Frank Lampard’s Chelsea backroom team as he jets out to Japan where club are on pre-season tour

ASHLEY COLE has hinted he is joining Frank Lampard's Chelsea backroom team - as he jetted out to Japan... where the club are currently on their pre-season tour.

The legendary left-back - who played under Lampard at Derby in 2018-19 - posted an update of himself en route to the Far East on Instagram.

The Blues are currently on tour in Japan, with the latest update suggesting Cole, 38, could be sensationally rejoining Chelsea.

The ex-Arsenal and England star retired from playing football at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Cole had joined Lampard at Derby following the end of the MLS season, where he had been playing for LA Galaxy.

He helped the Rams reach the Championship play-off final - where they eventually missed out to Aston Villa.

But now he could link-up with Lampard again, this time in the Premier League, at the club where he won seven major trophies - including the Premier League and Champions League - in eight years.

ANOTHER ONE?

Cole could also join another old friend of Lampard, Jody Morris, who will take on the role of assistant boss at his old club.

The 40-year-old former midfielder played 173 times for Chelsea between 1996 and 2003 - with another ex-team-mate, Hilario, joining as goalkeeper coach.

And yet another Chelsea legend recently hinted at linking up with Lamps at Stamford Bridge... Michael Ballack.

Last month, the German revealed he was undergoing work for his Uefa B Licence, suggesting he could be in line for a new gig at Chelsea.

On top of that, the Stamford Bridge cult icon wished Lampard a happy birthday last week, commenting that he would "see him soon".

Accompanying a picture of the two friends together, Ballack wrote: "Happy birthday @franklampard - have a great one... see you soon."

As well as that suggestive post, the ex-Bayern Munich star shared a snap of himself in Wales as he works towards his first coaching badge.

Ballack explained: "Doing my UEFA B License #coaching Back to school #UEFA #BLicense".

Didier Drogba is just one other former team-mate of Lampard linked with a move "home" to join the youthful coaching ranks.
