Boy, 9, seriously injured after being attacked by stray Staffordshire Bull Terrier while walking with family in park

A SCHOOLBOY was seriously injured after being attacked by a stray dog while with his family.

The nine-year-old was walking in Langdon Hills recreation ground in Essex last night when the horror unfolded.

The animal - described as a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog with long legs - first acted aggressively towards the family's own pooch.

It then lashed out and mauled the boy as he tried to separate them.

He was rushed to hospital with serious injured, Essex Police confirmed.

Cops say the raging dog didn't have a collar and was not accompanied by its owner.

They are now appealing for anyone who saw the attack or a dog matching the animal's description to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "We understand that this incident will cause concerns within the community, but officers are in the area searching for the dog and speaking to as many people as possible to find out if they have any information, which could help us with our investigation."

Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 42/194565/20.
