Caroline Flack's boyfriend Lewis Burton has been left heartbroken after the former Love Island host, 40, took her own life on February 15.

On the day of the inquest into her death , which Lewis and none of Caroline's family attended, the tennis player shared a never before seen selfie in which he and the TV presenter look the picture of happiness.

The 27-year-old uploaded the photo on Wednesday to his Instagram stories and accompanied the image with a broken heart emoji.

Caroline can be seen make-up free and beaming from ear to ear as she cuddles up to Lewis in the image that appears to have been taken during one of their holidays.

On Wednesday an inquest took place at Poplar Coroner's Court , where it was confirmed that the former Love Island star died by hanging.

During the inquest, coroner Sandra Polson told that police were driving through Stoke Newington in the capital when they were flagged down by an 'informant'.

She added that Caroline's unresponsive body was identified by her twin sister Jody Flack after police and paramedics tried desperately to revive the star through CPR.

Caroline had arranged plans with Jody and their mum Chris Flack that day.

Police and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the ITV personality, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene at 2.36pm, the court heard.

The court heard an autopsy found a provisional cause of death as suspension by ligature.

Caroline was identified by her sister.

Opening and adjourning the inquest, Ms Polson said the inquest will resume on August 5.

The TV personality committed suicide three weeks before she was due to stand trial for allegedly beating her boyfriend Lewis.

The ITV star and Lewis both proclaimed her innocence after she allegedly hit her lover's head with a lamp during an early morning altercation at her London flat in December.

Police were called to her Islington flat in the early hours of December 12 after reports a man had been assaulted. Flack was charged with assault by beating the following day.

On December 23 she pleaded not guilty to assault at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court. She was due back in court in March.

The inquest followed on from Caroline's mum Chris releasing a statement penned by the presenter before she died.

She said Caroline's advisors had told her not to release it while she was alive, but she wanted Caroline's voice to be heard.

In the post Caroline said she wasn't a "domestic abuser" as she spoke about how her world had been turned upside down by her arrest.
