Conor McGregor taunts Khabib’s ‘mermaid leg wrap’ in now-deleted tweet about best UFC fighters of all time

CONOR McGREGOR taunted Khabib Nurmagomedov's "mermaid leg wrap" in a now-deleted tweet about the best UFC fighters of all time.

The former two-weight champion posted a tribute to legendary names Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Ronda Rousey, Dan Henderson and Mirko Cro Cop.

But he also gave a backhanded compliment to the grappling ability of fierce rival Nurmagomedov.

McGregor tweeted: "Conors left hand. Anderson’s front kick. Rondas armbar. Hendo’s bomb. Crocops high kick. Jon’s side kick to the knees over and over again and actually the only thing at this stage?

"Khabibs little mermaid leg wrap thing he does.

"What a sport! Who’s the greatest, you already know."

The 31-year-old Irishman has since deleted the tweet in which he takes aim at Nurmagomedov's dominant wrestling style.

McGregor was beaten by unbeaten Russian Khabib in October 2018 tapping out in the fourth round after a one-sided display of grappling and ground and pound from the Dagestani hero.

But after returning to winning ways this year at welterweight, knocking out Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds in January, UFC boss Dana White has promised The Notorious a rematch against his nemesis.

But the Dublin southpaw could be made to wait as Nurmagomedov will have to first face the winner between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, who fight for the interim lightweight belt next week at UFC 249.

Nurmagomedov was due to defend his crown but after travelling back to Russia amid the coronavirus pandemic, the 31-year-old is unable to leave the country.

It left White searching for an opponent for Ferguson, with Gaethje now due to fill in at last minute with the event set for tribal land in California at the Tachi Palace Casino Resort in order to swerve COVID-19 distancing guidelines.

McGregor's next move now has to be worked out by the UFC as he is left without a recognised next opponent with the title holder and two contenders tied up.

Promoter White said: "I don’t know where this puts anybody, because Conor really wants that rematch with Khabib, while Khabib and Tony or Gaethje won’t fight now until probably September.

"So yeah, nobody saw this coming.

"This is one of those things you can’t predict, or see coming, but it happened, and we’re rolling with it and we’re gonna get it figured out.”
