Cops hunting man in 60s after woman is ‘raped’ near Grays Wharf

A MAN in his 60s is wanted by police after a woman was raped in broad daylight.

Police were called to an area towards Kilvert Wharf, near to Thames Road, Grays, at around 3.10pm this afternoon.

A number of emergency service vehicles were stationed near to the cordon, including marked and unmarked police cars and an ambulance.

A member of the public intervened and the attacker ran off in the direction of Argent Street.

Police now wish to speak to a man described as being between 60 and 70-years-old and wore blue jeans with a blue fleece and a black body warmer.

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "We would like to speak to this man in connection with the rape of a woman in Grays.

"The victim, a woman aged in her 30s, was approached by a man in Grays town centre during the afternoon of September 16.

"She was then followed down towards Kilvert Wharf, where she was attacked just before 3.10pm.

"A member of the public intervened and the man ran off in the direction of Argent Street.

"The man was described as being between 60 and 70 years old and wore blue jeans with a blue fleece and black body warmer.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 and speak to the Grays Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team quoting incident number 766 of 16/09."
