Steve McDonald was ranting and raving in Monday night's Corrie double bill when he found out his daughter is expecting a baby at 14.

The taxi boss was fuming as Amy refused to reveal the identity of the father and insisted she wants a termination.

Mum Tracy and gran Liz tried to calm the situation down, but Steve was having none of it.

However, there's a change of tack next week when Steve and Tracy reveal a plan to Amy, played by Elle Mulvaney, to raise the baby as their own. But how will Amy react?

Steve, who caused shockwaves on the cobbles by secretly fathering a son after a fling with Leanne Battersby in 2016, tells Tracy that the idea might be the best option for all concerned.

But a worried Liz warns the pair, who had been toying with the idea of trying for another child, that adopting Amy’s baby is a huge commitment.

Tracy and Amy Barlow

Amy assures her parents it was consensual sex that took place at a party just before Christmas.

But the mystery of who the father is remains, with Amy saying she "doesn't know" who the father is.

The finger of blame will be pointed at Simon Barlow, which could prove awkward considering that they aren't blood relatives, but they are thought of as cousins because Tracy and Simon's dad Peter are adoptive half-brother and sister.

It's not the first time the ITV1 soap has tackled teen pregnancy.

Shocking moment Coronation Street's Amy Barlow told her parents that she's pregnant

In 2015 Faye, the adopted daughter of Anna Windass, fell pregnant when she was just 12 and became the youngest parent in the soap's history.

She kept the pregnancy a secret from everyone except Craig Tinker as she desperately tried to come to terms with the news that she would become a mother.

In 2000 Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, gave birth to daughter Bethany when the character was 13 years old.
