Drink-driver who crashed Audi into five homes after hitting drain is banned for 19 months

DRINK DRIVE HOUSE SMASH

A DRINK-driver crashed his car into a row of five homes, a court heard.

Samuel Collier, 30, was more than twice the legal limit when his Audi A3 careered through five front gardens and slammed into a house.

The motor was embedded in a front bay window. Sue Gethin, prosecuting, said substantial structural damage was caused and a survey had to be carried out before the car could be removed.

Defending himself, Collier said he had been for a “social drink” with his partner and decided to drive to get food.

He said he hit a raised drain before crashing in the early hours of July 29, in Cheltenham, Gloucs.

Collier panicked and fled, but was caught by cops, the town’s JPs heard.

He said: “I have no recollection of what happened afterwards, other than an overwhelmingly feeling of shock and panic.”

Collier, of Cheltenham, admitted drink-driving and failing to stop after an accident.

He was disqualified for 19 months and handed a four-month community order.
