Drivers and pedestrians are to face five months of disruption as a £1.1m scheme to improve the main streets in Howden town centre is carried out.
Work to resurface Pinfold Street, Bridgegate, Flatgate and Hull Road will begin on Monday, March 25. Footpaths along the same stretch of road will also be resurfaced.
The work will be done in four phases, starting with road and footpath resurfacing along Pinfold Street and Bridgegate from March 25 until May 10, where a temporary road closure will be in place during working hours.
Resurfacing will be carried out on Bridgegate between the Co-op and Zolsha restaurant car parks from May 13 to June 7. A temporary road closure will be in affect from 6pm to 11pm on weekdays, with traffic being diverted via Boothferry Road and Hailgate.
From June 10 to July 23, work will be carried out during working hours to resurface the road and footpath along Flatgate.
The final phase will be carried out from July 24 to August 23 with resurfacing on Hull Road with temporary road closures in place.
The scheme will involve both daytime and evening work, but East Riding of Yorkshire Council have said it will avoid morning and afternoon rush hours where possible.
Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We would like to thank Howden residents, businesses people and motorists in advance for their patience during this resurfacing scheme.
“It is a lengthy project, but we have tried to minimise disruption as much as we can. People will notice a big improvement to the road surface when the work is completed.”
Throughout the scheme access will still be permitted within the work areas to residents, business owners and emergency services.
