Nantes are to postpone their French Cup encounter amid fears over former striker Emiliano Sala.

The Argentine striker was on board a missing private jet from Nantes to Cardiff on Monday night.

Sala completed a club-record £15m move from the Ligue 1 side to Cardiff on Saturday before returning to his former club to bid farewell.

Nantes are due to be in action in the French Cup against third-tier L'Entente SSG on Thursday.

But the French Football Federation has proposed the match be postponed amid serious fears over Sala.

Nantes posted a poignant video tribute to the striker on Monday evening alongside the caption "Thank you Emi."

Sala spent four years with the Lugue 1 side before sealing his move to south Wales.

Sala signs for Cardiff

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman issued a statement earlier on Tuesday, stating: “We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night.

"We are awaiting confirmation before we can say anything further. We are very concerned for the safety of Emiliano Sala."

Cardiff are not in action this weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup.
