Emmerdale actress Fiona Wade is turning heads more than ever these days... as she’s often mistaken for Meghan Markle.
Fiona, who plays Priya Sharma, in the ITV soap, says passers-by often do a royal double-take.
She chuckled: “When I used to wear my hair up, I would get told I looked like Meghan all the time.
“I was in a train station the other day and a guy came up and said I look just like her.”
She added: “I don’t think I do, but it is very flattering!”.
But realising people see her as dead ringer for the Duchess of Sussex, is not the reason her spirits are soaring.
Fiona, 40, is thrilled at the prospect of being reunited with her new husband Simon Cotton. She’s hardly seen actor Simon, 42, since they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in the Cotswolds back in November.
Simon, who had a small part in Emmerdale himself, is busy touring in the stage musical of The Bodyguard. And to make matters worse he had six-week stint in Japan before they married.
Fiona said: “We did table plans over FaceTime. I don’t know how I did that, oh my goodness! We stay in touch with a lot of FaceTime chats. I think, being actors, we’re a little bit better at being away from each other. So we deal with it OK.”
She explains: “I do miss him and it is hard. But he’ll be back soon, he finishes in two weeks. We’ve really missed each other.
“We were so in love and committed before we married, but just saying those vows, something happens. It’s like it almost seals it.
“The whole day was wonderful. It feels incredible – it feels a million, billion times infinitely better since we got married.”
And she has her heart firmly set on expanding the family: “We’re really excited for the baby phase. Hopefully we’re lucky enough to have children, that would be wonderful.”
Fiona is also hoping Emmerdale triumphs at the National Television Awards, after scooping the Best Serial Drama for the past three years. She said: “Everyone works so hard. It would be wonderful to win.”
Meanwhile her character Priya is set to star in some dark scenes this week.
Fiona said: “It’s the most horrendous thing. Priya is out looking for the dog and she stumbles across poor Graham [Foster’s] body.”
He has been murdered.
She adds: “She likes Graham, she’s always got on with him, so it’s a huge shock”
“When Priya talks to the police, she puts her foot in it and mentions Marlon, so we’ll the repercussions of that coming up.”
Fiona joined Emmerdale in 2011 and says she’s delighted to still be on the show nine years later – although she hasn’t ruled out one day trying her luck in Hollywood. But she adds: “The thing is, I’m here now and I love it. ”
