Emmerdale fans poke fun at ‘cheeseball’ Pete for proposing to Rhona to Ed Sheeran tunes

EMMERDALE fans slated "cheeseball" Pete Barton tonight's for proposing to Rhona Goskirk for a second time in truly cringe-worthy fashion.

She returned home in tonight's episode to find him waiting with a bunch of flowers, candles all around - and Ed Sheeran lightly playing in the background.

He starts off in a not-very-romantic fashion, saying: "If you'd taken any longer, all this would have burnt out."

However, to the strains of Thinking Out Loud, he adds: "I know you've already said yes. But I just wanted to make it special."

Pete then hands her the roses, gets down on one knee and says: "I love you Rhona Goskirk, like I've never loved anyone.

"So will you marry me?"

She replies: "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, Pete. Why wouldn't I?"

Unhappy with the vague reply he asks: "So is that a yes?"

She replies: "Yes, that's a yes" before he slips the ring on her finger and kisses her.

"Listen, I got a couple of hours before I need to be back next door. Why don't we..." before they disappeared upstairs.

However, viewers weren't impressed with his efforts, with one fan sighing: "Oh do me a favour Pete.... f**king cheesball."

Another tweeted: "I would vom on any fella who put on Ed Sheeran to set the mood."

Others even found fault with the ring he'd chosen, writing: "Looks like Pete went to Argos for the Ring..... Elizabeth Dukes finest."
