A video of sausage rolls and steak bakes cooking in a Greggs oven has left thousands of fans in complete awe as stores reopen across the UK.

The 24 minute-long timelapse video was posted onto Greggs' Facebook page this morning and quickly attracted thousands of views from fans.

The live stream of the cooking pastries proved a surprise viral hit for the chain, with more than 1,500 people 'liking' and 'loving' the footage - as well as more than 800 comments in less than an hour.

It comes as 800 Greggs stores across the country reopen on Thursday for the first time since lockdown began in March.

"What a day to be alive. Greggs is back," One happy fan tweeted.

In response to the footage, another eager fan said: "Oh my goodness that is making me hungry. I'm going to Greggs now to buy a sausage roll."

Many others were also keen to get their hands on many of the other treats available to purchase at the store.

Another added: "Haven't had a coffee in 3 months as your latte is the only one I can drink."

Even staff at the bakery were just as excited to return.

"I have just been to get mine miss them so much and I work for Greggs buzzing we are getting open again." One admitted.

Meanwhile, other fans were even getting slightly flustered from watching the uncooked pastries turn into puffed up golden brown savoury snacks.

One viewer joked: "People going on about how that new film on Netflix is saucy.... this beats it hands down..."

Others watched the video after already tucking into a Greggs following a visit this morning.

"Just eaten a sausage roll. Got a sarnie for this afternoon." One announced.

Another said: "Already had my Greggs breakfast this morning."

Someone else wrote: "Had a Greggs breakfast this morning. Was a wee bit emotional tbh."

"Greggs and a cuppa this morning, life is great :)" Another happily put.

Greggs reopened 800 of its 2,000 stores on Thursday morning, June 18, with more to reopen in in the coming weeks.
