A staff member at Flamingo Land has suffered leg injuries while working on a ride.

Emergency services were called to the North Yorkshire adventure park and zoo at 1.20pm on Wednesday.

Witnesses saw a Yorkshire Air Ambulance hovering over the site and several ambulances were on the scene.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police also attended the park in Kirby Misperton.

There were initial reports a visitor has fallen from a ride but it was a staff member who was injured.

A spokesman for the force said: "At around 1.30pm on Wednesday, North Yorkshire Police were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to an industrial incident at Flamingo Land Resort near Pickering.

"A member of maintenance staff suffered leg injuries while working on a ride. The man was airlifted to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

"Although serious, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed."

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance has confirmed they attended the incident.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called to the incident at Flamingo Land and airlifted the casualty to hospital."
