Gareth Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has declared it will take "a lot of money" to buy the star from Real Madrid this summer, and that he is yet to hold any discussions over the forward.

Bale has been through a turbulent loan spell at Tottenham this season, and has had lengthy spells in and out of the first-team.

Jose Mourinho took a while to give him his first significant minutes, and reports have suggested that the former manager was reluctant to sign him in the first place.

Bale has scored 14 times and provided three assists, and bagged a hat-trick against Sheffield United in his most recent appearance.

The Welshman is set to return to Real Madrid this summer at the end of his loan, but Spurs are expected to try and sign him permanently.

However, Barnett has warned it will take a significant amount of money in order to do so.

He said: "They would have to have a lot of money and they would have to be one that he has an interest in playing for. That rules out a lot of clubs."

Barnett went on to explain that due to Bale's turbulent season so far, he's only focused on finishing strong and doesn't want to look to the summer transfer window just yet.

Bale seems to be enjoying his football under interim head coach Ryan Mason, and Barnett went on to predict that the forward won't slow down now he's been given the opportunity to shine.

The agent added: "Nothing has been discussed at the moment. He had a tough ride and I don't think that should have been necessary.

"He came as one of the best players in the world. Sure, he had a few injuries and a few fitness problems but once they were over, all he needed was to be played in the right position and to be played constantly to get back into the rhythm.

"He has been given that opportunity and you can see how he plays.

"I think with Gareth, like a lot of players, he has to enjoy his life and then you do well."

Barnett also appeared to aim a sly dig at Mourinho by claiming Bale didn't have the opportunity to play in the right way.

He insisted he would have performed better earlier in the season if Mourinho had given him the chance.

"Given the opportunity, given the right way to play him you may have found that he was always at his best," he added.

"He just didn't have the opportunity to prove it or the way to prove it."
