A heartbroken father has paid tribute to his daughter who was allegedly killed by her mum.

At the beginning of August Nathan Katterns lost his three-year-old daughter Iyla following what is thought to have been a lengthy custody battle with his former partner Tamara Gurney.

According to a fundraising page set up to support Mr Katterns, from the Gold Coast in Australia, the young girl was found dead in bed at her mother's house in Orange, New South Wales.

Gurney was allegedly found in another room in the house in a non-lucid state.

She was taken to hospital and later charged with murder.

Following the tragic loss of life friends and family posted a tribute to the girl on behalf of Mr Gurney.

"You will always be daddy's little girl "moo" and loved to the moon, stars, heaven and back forever,' the tribute read, according to The Sunday Mail.

"You will be remembered and in the hearts of everyone who met you."

So far the fundraiser for Mr Katterns, a teacher, has raised more than £4,600.

A note on the the page reads: "Nathan is considered by family and friends as one of the most caring, loving, giving and dotting fathers a little girl could ever want.

"We want to assist in alleviating Nathan's financial burden while he, his partner Miranda, family and friends grieve and then start to try and put the pieces of their lives back together during this very difficult and heartbreaking time.

"Every time we look out across the ocean or up to the sky… we will always think of you as our ‘Angel Girl’."

The page claims that Mr Katterns had been awarded custody of his daughter just a day before she died.

Police have not released details of the young girl's injuries.
