Great British Bake Off runner up Dave Friday has proposed to his girlfriend on television while filming the show's spinoff An Extra Slice.

Dave asked girlfriend Stacey Valentine to be his wife after getting down on one knee on the show, presented by Jo Brand.

In front of the studio audience host plus Extra Slice host Tom Allen and show's presenter Matt Lucas, Dave said: "So this has been a very memorable year, obviously the birth of our baby boy Ronnie being selected to be on Bake Off -"

"Don't make me cry!" said Stacey.

Stacey said yes and burst into tears

"I want us to start the next chapter of our lives together, so Stacey Lynn Valentine, I love you from the bottom of my heart, and -"

Shocked, Stacey interrupted him: "Oh my god, I actually thought he was gonna say a joke!"

Stacey had no idea what Dave had planned

Dave continued: "Will you marry me?"

Clutching her hands over her chest, Stacey replied: "Yes! Oh my god!"

The studio erupted into applause as confetti rained down from the ceiling, indicating the show producers were in on it all along.

Viewers flocked to congratulate the happy couple

Bake Off's official Twitter account posted a photo of the adorable moment, and wrote alongside it: "She said yes! Congratulations, Dave and Stacey".

Delighted fans also took to Twitter to share their joy at the lovely moment, as Dave and Stacey, who share one-month-old baby Ronnie together, got engaged.

One gushed: "Oh we are all in tears. Get out the champagne! Huge congratulations to you both and your lovely little baby Xxx".

"He proposed! She said yes, it must have been his Newquay jelly cake!" added another.

"Omg, how cute is Dave! Such a lovely guy and all round good egg. Congratulations to Stacey & Dave. All the very best for you both with your next adventure," penned a third.

Dave was runner up to winner Peter Sawkins, while the other runner up on the show was Laura Adlington.
