One doctor left This Morning hosts Phil and Holly and viewers watching from home in total shock as he left a patient to play Spin To Win over the phone.

The presenters were lost for words as the doctor admitted he was in the middle of seeing a patient when he answered their phone call to take part in the competition.

Dr Rhodri answered with the correct password of 'New York' upon picking up the phone after leaving the duo waiting a while in suspense.

As they spoke to him they asked: "Why did it take you so long to answer the phone?"

To which he said: "Because I'm on the wards, I'm a Doctor in Cardiff."

Immediately stunned by this, Holly and Phil both gasped and asked "Have you just nipped out?"

"Yeah I'm with a patient, I've just come out." Dr Rhodri replied.

"We best get this done quick then!" Phil and Holly both insisted.

The Wales-based doctor originally won a spa trip in Cardiff, but was quickly altered by Phil to a spa break in Devon instead.

Players of Spin to Win have to answer the call with a password instead of 'Hello' and then answer a topical question before Holly and Phil spin the wheel to win a prize for the caller.

Gob-smacked by what had just happened, viewers tuning into the ITV show flocked to social media to react, with many left less than impressed.

One viewer tweeted: "Rhodri's patient has died from his injuries as Rhodri walks around the ward to tell the other doctors about his win."

Another added: "Just cant get the staff these days.. Get back to your patients doctor!!"

"Wow he was a doctor and he had time to answer?! Gosh." A third wrote.

A fourth commented: "And they wonder why people go with BUPA."

Someone else commented: "Well that was a rare event, #ThisMorning talking to a doctor who was actually in his surgery seeing patients."

"Imagine being in hospital and the doctor walking out to take a phone call from this pair? I'd be fuming." Another vented.
