This is the shocking moment a driver rains punches on a cyclist through his car window during a road rage attack.
Si Shimells was travelling along Sutton Road in Sutton on Friday afternoon when a car came the other way on the wrong side of the road. The cyclist confronted the driver, explaining that he had nearly run him over.
Mr Shimells captured the angry exchange on his GoPro before the camera shakes violently and Mr Shimells ends up on the ground. The date and time of the footage is incorrect and the incident took place between 1pm and 2pm on Friday.
Mr Shimells, of west Hull, said: “I suddenly realised there was a car coming straight for me and I didn't know what to do.
“At first I thought he was doing that to duck into one of the driveways of the houses, but he kept coming. A gap actually opened up when the car behind him stopped, but he didn't turn into it, he actually turned into me.
“He caught me with the back end and I ended up getting caught up in his back wheel and it threw me over my bike.”
But that was not the end of it. After an angry exchange the driver threw punches at Mr Shimells and he is now appealing for witnesses to come forward. The cyclist said: “He wound his window down and was punching me on the head as he was driving past.
“A lady stopped in her car to give me her details, but I think I was suffering with concussion as I have no idea what I did with her details.
“I would like other witnesses to come forward and report what they saw to the police also.”
While on the phone to the police, Mr Shimells walks up to the nearby junction where the car with the driver who attacked him has stopped. There, while Mr Shimells tried to take down his number plate, the driver got out of his vehicle in the middle of the road and they continued to argue.
In separate footage seen by Hull Live but not included in the above clip, the driver said: “You swerved in front of me and then took a swing at me. There was plenty of room.”
But Mr Shimells told the driver: “You really hurt me” and told police over the phone: “The driver has really taken me out”.
Afterwards Mr Shimells said: “The driver was still waiting at the junction, so I took my video to get an ID of the car and him and he got out and was very aggressive. I had to back away I thought he was going to assault me again.
"I called the police from the scene but I refused an ambulance as I could still walk and felt relatively okay, if a little shaken and bruised.
“However, a few hours later I took a real turn and felt sick, major headaches, neck and shoulders became really tight and painful and I was getting ringing in my ears and shooting pains.”
Mr Shimells went to A&E but had to leave due to building work going on which was aggravating his headaches. He returned to the Bransholme walk-in centre on Saturday where he was found to have suffered bruising to his head and muscle damage to his shoulder, back and spine.
