City centre pub The Dispensary is set for a huge change as local drinking hall Dockleaf takes over.

The Baltic Triangle bar announced on Facebook it would be going "back to its roots" after being handed the keys today.

The statement said: “We grew up in pubs but cut our teeth in cocktail bars.

“We’ve always wanted a chance to bridge a gap between generations, drinking cultures and to revive what a Public House once stood for.

“2 years after bringing Dockleaf to the world, our version of an urban local.

“Halfway between a pub and a cocktail bar, we decided that our next step was to go right back to our roots. Beer, pubs & community.

“We will be handed the keys to The Dispensary tomorrow morning.

“It’s the responsibility of a building, tradition, morals, quality and community.

“It’s scary, but hopefully with mutual respect we will retain regulars, continue with great cask ales, add our own quality liquid, lift the character of the building and add to an already bustling community pub in the heart of the city.

“It will be a slow process to get it where we want it to be but a process worthwhile.

“See you on Tuesday night for a pint of ‘House White’ (you’ll have to be a regular before you know what ale this is)

“The pub is dead. Long live the pub.”

The Dispensary, which is based on Renshaw Street, has been around for more than a decade and was recently named in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide - and now it is set a huge change as Dockleaf takes over.
