The egg and spoon race is a staple of the school sports day schedule – but doggy daycares might want to start thinking about running their own variation of the classic event if this dog is anything to go by.

This labrador showed off his amazing balancing skills that would be right at home in the classic race.

Dexter ‘the balancing dog’ has already built up quite a reputation on TikTok for his sturdiness, and put his steady nose to the test in this amusing video.

The clip, which was uploaded by user @dexterthebalancingdog, was an absolute sensation on the app, with almost five million views and over a million likes.

At the start of the video, viewers are introduced to the trend of giving your dog an egg and seeing if they are gentle with it, a format which has also been tried and tested with toddlers.

However, when Dexter comes on screen, viewers see a twist on the trend, with his owner placing the egg on the Labrador’s nose.

Dexter, wearing a rather dapper spinning hat, instantly freezes, making sure that the egg can’t possibly fall.

His sturdiness is never in doubt, even as the camera zooms right in on his snout, the patient dog remains still and the egg stays put.

Viewers were extremely impressed by the dog’s balancing abilities, with one commenting: “He went into focus mode.”

Another commenter wrote: “Not my dogs! They practically inhale eggs.”

A third added: “Rumour says that the egg is still there.”

Labradors have proven a popular breed on TikTok, likely owing to their status as the most popular of all pedigree breeds.

According to The Kennel Club, this popularity stems from the breed’s versatility as a family companion, service or guide dog as well as a working gundog.

Another Labrador who recently hit headlines was Jake, who mastered the use of a torch in order to go to the toilet in the dark.

The clever dog takes the torch from his owner every night before going into the garden for a wee.

Once he is done, he obediently brings the torch right back to his owner, in a trick which impressed viewers.
