Drivers are being warned of disruption across the motorway network this afternoon as the region is battered by heavy rain.

Greater Manchester Police's traffic account says there is 'severe' flooding across the city's roads and motorways this afternoon.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of rain for Thursday morning, which was due to last until around midday.

Greater Manchester has seen consistent heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms over the last few days.

Manchester Traffic accounts on social media are warning of heavy delays across the region's roads.

A number of roads have been temporarily closed due to standing water or flooding.

GMP Traffic said on Twitter: "There is severe flooding all over the motorway network so please drive to the conditions and abide by the Matrix Warning Signals.

"They are there to give you warning and to protect staff as they attempt to clear standing water."
