The owner of Manchester brewery Beatnikz Republic has revealed plans to open a new Scandi-style cafe bar.

Lättsam will open on Spring Gardens, serving artisan coffee and an all-day food menu starting with breakfast and all-day brunch dishes such as açai bowls, sausage and bacon brioche buns, and fry-ups.

At lunch time there'll be a selection of sandwiches, salads and soups to eat in or take away, and the team are also cooking up a menu to be served alongside after-work drinks from 4pm.

Customers can also look forward to a daily-changing range of cheesecakes, with flavours such as blueberry and lime, maple and pecan, and Oreo.

Behind the bar there'll be 10 taps of craft beer, mixing Beatnikz' own brews with guest beers from some of Scandinavia's most prominent breweries, alongside a range of natural wines, cocktails and 40 different small-batch gins.

Founder Paul Greetham said: “The initial influence for Lättsam came from a love of coffee.

“Putting the food menu together has a real joy to work on; and then the gins, natural wines and beers. It made this a real project of passion.

"We’ve always taken great pride in sourcing the best suppliers and ingredients, and this was no different. Combined with a fiercely independent attitude, we think Lättsam can really add to the dynamic of Manchester’s vibrant coffee, food and beer scene.”

The name Lättsam means easy-going or light-hearted in Swedish - and that's the atmosphere Paul is aiming to create at the cafe, which he hopes will become a key meeting and workspace in Manchester's business district.

“This ethos perfectly fits the concept we’re aiming for," he said.

"The Scandinavian fit-out design is inspired by this concept with a focus on pale concrete brickwork and splashes of timber.”

Brewing from beneath the railway arches of Red Bank since 2017, Beatnikz Republic expanded its Manchester presence with the opening of a Northern Quarter bar on Dale Street in late 2018. It also has a taproom at its brewery.

Lättsam will open at 55 Spring Gardens this spring, subject to planning approval. Opening hours will be from 8am until late on weekdays, and 9am until later at weekends.
