If Phil Brown starts to trend across the UK due to a Hull City result, you know something is up.

That's what happened tonight as the Tigers equalled their worst ever defeat at Wigan Athletic in a 8-0 hiding.

Brown of course infamously made the headlines back in City's Premier League days for a half-time team talk on the pitch at Manchester City.

When the Tigers are the butt of jokes, Brown's team talk is often brought up by City fans and opposing supporters alike.

And that's exactly what happened this evening in the wake of City's worst loss in 109 years.

The contest itself took a turn nice and early when Wigan's Kal Naismith opened the scoring in the first minute. It was a respectable 2-0 on the half hour as Kieffer Moore netted but then the flood gates opened.

Wigan scored five goals in 13 minutes as Moore bagged his second, Kieran Dowell notched his first two goals, with Jamal Lowe and Joe Williams also scoring before the break.

Dowell added his hat-trick goal in the second half as City miraculously only conceded one goal following half-time.

Perhaps laughing about it is what can keep City's fans going at the moment as they earned the headlines for all the wrong reasons, but truly this result is another example of a club in free fall and potentially heading down to League One.
