West Kirby pub Ring O’Bells has closed its doors as it prepares for a major overhaul.

The popular pub, which is known for being dog and horse friendly, is being taken over by pub group Stange & Co, which is also behind other Wirral venues including The Cottage Loaf and The Jug & Bottle.

The company announced the news this month on Facebook and said:“We are excited to announce that we have acquired The Ring O’Bells in West Kirby. We feel it’s going to be an absolute cracker, ticking all the boxes, character pub, great gardens, great area and very much a Stange & Co pub.

“We have some exciting plans for the old girl so will be closed for a number of months whilst we undertake a sympathetic refurb.”

Stange & Co also confirmed it would hold a local residents consultation on January 30, where it will look at ideas and take questions from the public.

Ring O’Bells confirmed the news and closed its doors on January 12, though no date has been announced for it to reopen just yet.

Loyal customers of the West Kirby favourite have taken to Facebook to share their wishes for Ring O’Bells staff and revealed what they’d like to see when the pub reopens.

One person commented: “Best of luck to everyone, some good times to remember”, while another wrote: “Good luck to all the staff for the future”.

Another added: “Ooooh- that is so exciting! Can not wait to see what the plans are. Excellent news, well done guys.”

“What a great announcement and if it's like the Jug & Bottle or Fox n hounds it will be amazing.” said another.

Others requested an outdoor play area, a vegetarian menu, to remain dog and horse-friendly and for the pub to keep its heritage with a modern uplift.
