Ex-Preston North End and Liverpool striker Neil Mellor expects Rhian Brewster to have a long and successful career in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old - who spent last season on loan at Swansea from the Premier League champions - scored 11 goals for Steve Cooper's side as they finished in sixth spot.

Last month, PNE boss Alex Neil told LancsLive that the club fell short with some of their targets in January.

"Some of them are very well known names that have done well this year for other teams." said Neil.

Brewster was believed to be a target for the Lilywhites and Mellor knows the quality the forward has, having seen him play on several occasions.

"I think he was the difference in Swansea getting in the play-offs, it's pretty clear to see the difference he made," said North End's former front man.

"I've no idea what the budget was to get Brewster, but I know he's a very talented centre-forward who has that natural ability to score goals.

"I have watched a lot of him and the lad's got the ability to be a Premier League star.

"He's going to be a top, top player, I was amazed that he went to Swansea.

"I would've thought everyone in the Championship would've wanted him.

"He had a long injury and needed the game time, which he's had now and he's scored some goals.

"He'll have the chance to impress at Liverpool in pre-season and I fully believe he will be involved in their match day squads next season - I doubt we will see him play in the Championship next year."
