Punters react on Twitter as John Gosden’s stable stars Too Darn Hot and Calyx suffer shock defeats

US punters are a fickle breed, and I will admit I have been guilty of pocket talking many times over the years.

It doesn't take much for the old Tweet machine to light up when a big favourite gets turned over.

And on Saturday, TWO of John Gosden's stable stars were turned over in the space of 15 minutes.

First up, the hugely exciting sprinter Calyx tamely surrendered his unbeaten record at Haydock at odds of 2-13 (!).

It got worse for Gosden as Too Darn Hot, last year's champion two-year-old, was a one-paced second behind the impressive Phoenix Of Spain in the Irish 2000 Guineas as the 6-4 jolly.

All I had to do was refresh my feed, put my feet up, and enjoy the Twitter meltdown...

Christopher knew... #judge

No sympathy from Tom lad.

Jockey Rab Havlin's fault according to RJ (wasn't he beaten over three lengths?)

John reckons the bookies greased Havlin's palms. Steady on son...

Now come on... this jockey bashing is getting a tad over the top.

Even I wouldn't have messed it up on Frankel and the only horse I've thrown a leg over was in the arcade on Brighton pier.

You tell 'em Alex. It's a shame though, Too Darn Hot looked to have the world at his feet, but that's now back-to-back defeats.

#Toodarnold is a cracking hashtag. I've got stuck into Frankie a few times over the years, but the horse just looked flat to me.

Nice one Christine. I wonder if they'll consider renaming him?

We've all been guilty of counting our winnings at half way before having our pants pulled down. It's a hard game at times.
