Shocking moment police storm Covidiot rave with 300 people packed under railway arch after trying to lock cops out

POLICE stormed a rave under a railway arch crammed with 300 Covidiots who tried to block officers entering using padlocks.

Shocking footage showed cops raiding the illegal music event in Hackney, East London, last night.

They attempted to engage with the organisers but the ravers blocked the doors to stop officers from entering.

When they eventually got inside, police discovered 300 Covid flouters packed inside.

The Met Police confirmed they dished out more than £15,000 in Covid fines to around 78 rulebreakers.

But they said a group of revellers scaled a fence and managed to flee before they were slapped with a penalty.

Chief Superintendent Roy Smith, who attended the incident, said: “This was a serious and blatant breach of the public health regulations and the law in relation to unlicensed music events.

“Officers were forced, yet again, to put their own health at risk to deal with a large group of incredibly selfish people who were tightly packed together in a confined space - providing an ideal opportunity for this deadly virus to spread.

"Our frontline officers continue to police this public health crisis with compassion & professionalism but it is completely unacceptable they have to face such needless risks to their own health and to their families too.

“Whilst we will always seek to engage and explain, the message to those who have a total disregard for the safety of others and breach the law so blatantly is clear, our officers will act swiftly and decisively. Not just organisers, but all those present at such illegal parties can expect to be issued a fine.”

CRACKDOWN

The illegal event was one of a string of lockdown bashes that took place this weekend despite the tough rules.

In the West Midlands, cops handed out more than £16,000 in fines in just one night as Covidiots continued to flout the restrictions.

Cops attended 32 gatherings - including a student rave, birthday party and a student rave.

Inspector Steve Barnes said: "We understand that young people are frustrated at not being able to enjoy themselves and I do feel their pain, but we have to stick to the rules so that we can get back to some sort of normality sooner rather than later.

“People are dying and we have to prevent the spread of this virus.

“We hear the criticism that some are saying about our actions to police restrictions and, we more than anyone, want to concentrate on catching criminals, so my message is clear – stick to the rules and let us do our job of protecting communities and solving crime.”

The bash came just days after Priti Patel warned those who flout lockdown to go to parties will be stung by £6,400 fines in a fresh crackdown to beat the virus.

The Home Secretary Patel fumed: “The sacrifices that millions of you are making day in and day out are starting to make a difference. By staying at home you are helping to keep those you care about safe and contributing to this national effort.

“But there is a small minority who refuse to do the right thing. And to them my message is clear - if you don’t follow these rules then the police will enforce them.”

Anyone caught going to a party of 15 or more people will be whacked with an £800 fine.

This will double each time a person breaks the rules to a maximum of £6,400.
