Covid infection rates remain a serious issue in more than 60 neighbourhoods in Lancashire.

In the seven days to Tuesday (September 14), 61 hyper local areas have infection rates above the 400 mark - with one above the 800 mark.

These remain areas of concern when it comes to keeping coronavirus under control.

Areas of Blackpool, Preston, Fleetwood and Lancaster are home to particular hotspots.

Cases have spiked most in Hawes Side in Blackpool where the rate of infection has reached 811.5 new cases per 100,000 people - this is the highest rate in the county.

Case rates are shown per 100,000 people for the seven days ending on September 14. The government calculates this by dividing the seven total by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

"This makes it easier to compare cases across areas of different population size," a spokesperson said.

Several areas in Lancashire have seen big spikes in cases in September

"For local authorities, the population used is the mid-2020 population estimate from the Office for National Statistics.

"For Middle layer Super Output Areas (MSOAs), the mid-2019 population estimates are used."
