A stunt school owned by a Hollywood body double will be turned into flats.
Lancaster City Council confirmed on Wednesday (October 21) that the Regent Park Studios on 93 Regent Road in Morecambe will be transformed into nine apartments.
The former stunt school is owned by Martin Shenton who was once Sylvester Stallone's body double and worked on such silver screen hits as Les Miserables, War Horse and RED 2.
The original building was previously a coach house and stables for the adjacent Park Hotel, which Martin also owns.
Regent Park Studios will now undergo several aesthetic changes with alterations to windows and doors as well as the installation of rooflights and Juliet balconies.
Lancaster City Council told Martin that he could proceed with his changes given that they were completed within three years.
Mr Martin, who was the stunt double for Hollywood mogul Stallone in his famous Warburtons advert, was forced to close the studio earlier this year following the Covid-19 induced recession.
The planning statement read: “The applicant has owned this building since 2005 and expended a considerable amount of time and money in looking at ways of providing different commercial activities in the West End of Morecambe.
“The child nursery, dance clubs, trampoline centre and other ventures have been well received by the West End community – and generally well supported.
“Competition from the new Jump Rush venture in the Winter Gardens car park resulted in a significant drop in takings leading to eventual closure.
“A complete rethink is required to make better use of the building.
“It seems the most appropriate use would be to convert this building for residential use.”
The studio at 93 Regent Road currently contains a Tae Kwon Do studio, two gyms, a climbing wall and a climbing stunt area.
The three storey building will now be converted into nine one and two bed flats with living spaces and kitchens.
Two Juliet balconies will be added to the flats on the first floor.
Sports England were consulted about the closure of the studio and the subsequent change of use but did not respond.
