A teenager is fighting for life in hospital after being stabbed in the street in Trafford .

Four people - including a 13-year-old boy - have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attack.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene on School Road in Stretford just before 2pm on Wednesday.

The victim, who is 17, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.

He is in a critical condition, police say.

A scene remained in place into Wednesday evening while investigations continued.

There is also a cordon on nearby Lester Street.

Officers were seen carrying out enquiries outside a block of flats on the road - one of the entrances and an alleyway which runs down have been taped off.

Photos from the scene showed forensic officers laying evidence markers on the ground.

They also looked to be examining a pile of what appears to be clothing in the middle of the street.

Witnesses claim they heard shouting and saw 'people chasing each other', however this has not been confirmed by GMP.

One woman told how people rushed to help the victim after he collapsed in the street.

"He looked in a bad way," she said.

The scene on School Road was right next to Victoria Park where youngsters from a nearby school were reportedly enjoying sports day. The event, it is understood, was unaffected by the incident.

A force spokesman said that four people were taken into custody.
