Vincent Kompany has revealed he has sympathy for Liverpool's title limbo saying: “How bad is your luck!”

The former Manchester City skipper lifted the Premier League trophy four times during his time at The Etihad – and he feels for Liverpool stars still on a knife edge over when they'll be crowned champions.

Liverpool led nearest challengers City by 25 points and needed just five more points to be champions before the coronavirus outbreak shut down football.

And Kompany says: “I can imagine and I can empathise – how bad's your luck, right.

“But we need to hope the rightful winners get everything they deserved.”

Kompany says he can "empathise" with Liverpool

With Project Restart still aiming for a 12 June resumption of Premier League action behind closed doors, it has emerged there are still concerns over Liverpool fans converging on Anfield when they win the title.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters admits it's a worry but has revealed they would allow a trophy presentation to Jurgen Klopp's victorious stars - if it was safe to do so.

Kompany scored a crucial goal in last season's title race

“It would be good if we can find a way of doing it” he said adding that he wanted to “play out the season as much as possible at home and away venues and we're talking to the authorities about that.”

He added: "I do believe we can appeal to fans not to congregate outside football grounds or go to other people's houses to watch football matches in contravention of government guidelines."

Kompany scored a crucial goal in last season's dramatic title race to earn City a crucial three points against Leicester City.
