A new section of a West Lothian library dedicated to the works of Robert Burns received a special donation from a former councillor earlier this month.

Allister Mackie, of Bathgate, has donated his personal collection of Robert Burns’s written works to the Simpson Library in the Bathgate Partnership Centre.

Mr Mackie said: “I am delighted to donate my collection to the library.

“I hope to see many people experiencing a similar level of enjoyment from the collection that I have over the years.

“I would encourage anyone with any collection of their own to donate to the library so we can build a reference point for Burns lovers to enjoy for years to come.”

The collection is free to read for library members, and features collections of his poetry, texts about his life and work, and also a copy of Allister Mackie’s own book, Robert Burns: Warts and All.

Further donations of Burns material for the dedicated section are welcome.

Executive councillor for culture and leisure, Dave King, said: “A huge thank you to Mr Mackie for his kind donation.

“The words of Robert Burns are celebrated all over the world and now library users in Bathgate will have their own special collection of his works to enjoy.”
