interviewer: Majid, how powerful is music and film in our society? Majid: i’ll take what Dr. Johnson said and share with you. You need to understand first of all that the artist has a very critical responsibility in your country. The music influences the behavior of the people who listen to it. you the artist did not create violence but you can motivate more violence and you can advertise violence by glamorizing it in your music. Not just violence but any other vice. Like you hear artists say, i’m talking about violence cos i lived through violence, i’m talking about jail because i went to jail, i’m talking about drugs because i sold drugs. i understand but the artist does not only have the responsibility to tell their experience only, but a responsibility to project a new reality. Majority of artists reflect just their experience. you don’t mostly see them necessarily projecting a new reality. Don’t just tell me what we are going through but tell me where we need to go. Any artist who is serious and honestly concerned about the future of the people and especially the children of the nation they live in, have a responsibility above the rhythm and the rhyme of the music. What is the message within the sound? Because it’s the message that is going to condition and influence the minds of the youth not the rhythm. So we need the rhythm to be attractive yes, but we also need the message to be attractive. So they need to make sure that they are injecting responsible, positive, revolutionary contents into the music. influences more than direct instruction. The soul learns through sounds and images. the music videos are very powerful because now you take the image and you match it with the rhythm. you have both languages of the soul, which is picture and sound working together to indoctrinate the unconscious mind of your population. So our brothers and sisters who are in the music industry or film industry or any kind of artistic arena, have to be responsible for their art work because what they are doing is going to leave a much longer impact on the minds of our youth than anything they learn in their school. #LEADERSHiP
