I will retain Asawase seat for NDC

The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has said that he will retain the seat for his National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2020 general elections.

Muntaka Mubarak made the remarks after he filed his nominations ahead of the party’s parliament primaries on Friday.

He told pressmen that recent developments within the party in the constituency could affect his chances of retaining the Asawase seat.

There is controversy in the constituency over allegations of sabotage leveled against the constituency executives by supporters of one Mubarick Masawudu, who wants to unseat Muntaka Mubarak.

But Muntaka said party members with grievances to use the right structures to seek redress.

If you have issues, “use internal mechanisms to resolve it. The party has a constitution, it has its rules and guidelines, when the party people decide that you have flouted rules, there are mechanisms to resolve it. You don’t run to the media, when you do that, you are washing your dirty linen in public. I have never had doubt about my chances. I have paid my dues, I have served my people well. When you move around my constituency, you don’t need to know that I have made a lot of sacrifices to serve our people,” Muntaka said.

Meanwhile, Asawase Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Mugis Mahdi has said that the Muntaka Mubarak is the only person on the party’s records to have filed his nomination to contest the parliamentary elections.

At press time Mubarick Masawudu was unable to file his forms as he arrived in Accra with some supporters to file at the party headquarters.

Reports say a deputy secretary at the Headquarters has refused to accept his nomination due to a supposed disciplinary action against him.

On Thursday, he encountered a similar challenge at the Ashanti Regional office of the party when he arrived to submit the nomination.

“I picked forms, today I’m here to submit forms but it is unfortunate that the party office is closed although they are supposed to be working from morning to evening,” Mubarick Masawudu said.
