Obituary: Nogoi Njie Human Rights Defender, Survivor and UDP Representative

The Gambia Center for Victims of Human Rights Violations, regrets to announce the demise of Mrs Nogoi Njie of Mandinary in the West Coast Region, after battling a long-time illness as a result of the torture meted out on her during detention at the NIA. She was arrested alongside the late Solo Sandeng and Co. on April 14th, 2016. She was a formidable woman who was steadfast in her stance on Electoral Reforms. We remember her as a patriotic citizen who was dedicated to the course of democracy and for her contribution to the course of justice and freedom in the Gambia.

Nogoi, until her demise served as the Vice-Chairwoman for the Women’s wing of the UDP Political Party. She epitomizes patriotism and unwavering dedication to the affairs of the country and her people, she was a force to be reckoned with.

The VC wishes to extend heartfelt condolences to her family, the victim’s community, victim-led organizations, TANGO and all Civil Society organizations, the Kalama Revolution, the United Democratic Party and all other political parties. We pray that God give us and her family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

According to the Family, burial arrangements were scheduled at her home in Mandinary on 25th September 2023 at 5 p.m.

May the soul of Mrs. Nogoi Njie and all others rest in peace.
