For the first 3 weeks of November, 35 deliveries were carried out at the General Hospital of Melenciano in Jimaní (Province of Independencia), of which 85% were women referred from Haiti.

This was revealed by the Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, who said that all cases were referred by health centers in Haiti, stressing that this is an illegal practice, but that for humanitarian reasons, these women were treated in a Dominican hospital.

The Minister declared that he had proof of the referrals of pregnant women from Haiti to the Dominican Republic but that he had deemed it "delicate" to refuse because "between the two Nations there must be a solution."
