Inch Mile Swim Fest cancelled on safety grounds

The Inch Mile Swim Fest, which was due to take place in Rathmullan this Saturday, has been cancelled.

The event had been pushed back to this weekend after E-coli levels in the water forced a postponement in August.

However, organisers have determined that weather conditions are unsuitable for the events to proceed.

“In common with several other swims this weekend, due to weather conditions being unsafe to put 200+ swimmers and kayakers in the water, and in conjunction with Swim Ireland, we are sadly cancelling the Inch Mile and Kinnegar 500 swims this weekend,” said a statement.

“The whole event is meant to be safe and enjoyable—in these conditions it would have been neither.

“Swim Ireland will be in touch with registered swimmers.”

The Inch Mile Swim Fest includes two events – a one-mile competitive swim and a 500-metre participation swim.

A total of 144 swimmers took part in Inch Mile Swim and Kinnegar 500 events last year.

The Inch Swim Fest was first held in 2019, but did not take place in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid-19 restrictions.
