NEWCASTLE West has received a jobs boost this Tuesday as food supplier Sysco unveiled plans to create 50 new positions.

It comes as part of the latest phase of a multi-million Limerick distribution centre in Limerick’s county town.

Formerly known as Pallas Foods, Sysco is Ireland’s largest food supplier, and the latest investment means employment at its site in the county will pass 400.

Nationally, Sysco employs more than 1,550 staff across nine facilities nationwide.

Limerick TD and Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan visited the facility this Tuesday where he welcomed the announcement.
He said: “Sysco is a global leader in the food service industry and its commitment to investing in an additional 50 new full-time positions at its Newcastle West facility is a real boost to the region. It is a welcome and positive injection, delivering significant economic benefits and playing a pivotal role in sustaining our local prosperity."

Recruitment for the positions is under way, said Mark Lee, the chief executive of Sysco.

He added: “This investment and job creation programme reinforces our long-standing commitment to Newcastle West and will help us realise our growth ambition countrywide.”

“Food distribution is at the heart of what we do but we are fundamentally a people business. We take great care to identify top talent to join us in delivering our growth plans and take pride in ensuring they can reach their full potential,” he said.

Job opportunities will span across various departments in Sysco.
