Sensational Bennett takes final stage and wins Ireland's 1st Tour de France green jersey in 31 years

SAM BENNETT HAS finished as the top sprinter at the Tour de France, becoming the first Irishman to win the green jersey since Sean Kelly in 1989.

Bennett sensationally stormed home on Champs-Élysées to earn his second stage win at this year’s Tour, and earn his mantle as sprint king in the most spectacular fashion possible.

The Carrick-on-Suir native needed only to finish the final stage after his closest rival, Peter Sagan, did not contest the final sprint.
