Accused teen rapist gave cops fake name to hide previous charge – police

WESTERN BUREAU:

The Hanover police have discovered that a 15-year-old Hanover schoolboy in custody facing seven counts of rape was out on bail for a similar offence at the time he allegedly committed the latest incidents.

The Gleaner understands that the latest seven counts are in relation to a single victim.

Superintendent Sharon Beeput, the police commander for Hanover, told The Gleaner that at the time of the boy’s most recent arrest, he gave the police a false name to throw them off track as it relates to his previous arrest.

“In our follow-up investigations of the most recent incidents, we discovered that he had given us an incorrect name to conceal his true identity,” said Beeput. “The fact that he tried to deceive us by giving us an incorrect name leaves us to wonder if there are other things that he might be hiding that we need to know about.”

Beeput shocked councillors at last week’s monthly meeting of the Hanover Municipal Corporation when she told them about the accused teenager, who is also charged with having an offensive weapon in his possession at the time he was apprehended.

“We will be visiting his school and his community to get a true feel of who this youngster is,” said Beeput. “If it is true that he has been doing all these terrible things, it is obvious that he not only needs to be off the streets, but should also be getting some professional help. What he is accused of is not normal behaviour for anyone, much less a 15-year-old.”

The report in The Gleaner on Beeput’s revelation sparked outrage on social media, where many people called for the alleged perpetrator to be severely punished.
