Bail application for UWI student in torture case postponed

The bail application for Matthew Hyde, the University of the West Indies student accused of the abduction and torture of a female student, has been postponed to Monday.

The application was scheduled for today.

Mr. Hyde was further remanded.

When the matter was called up in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court today, attorney Samoi Campbell informed the court that her senior, Peter Champagnie KC is engaged in another matter in the Supreme Court and will not be able to apply for bail as scheduled.

Mr. Hyde is to return to court on March 27.

Last Friday, the court was also told that a private psychiatric evaluation is to be provided.

Mr. Hyde is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, use of malicious communication, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and false imprisonment.
