'Beachy Stout' and co-accused get September 2023 trial date

Portland businessman Everton 'Beachy Stout' McDonald and his co-accused Oscar Barnes, who are charged with the murder of his wife Tonia, are to be tried on September 18, 2023.

The trial date was agreed during a plea and case management hearing in the Home Circuit Court on Thursday morning.

The judge and jury trial is expected to last seven weeks.

The prosecution intends to call 25 witnesses while Mr. McDonald's defence team intends to call seven.

Attorney Ernest Davis, who is representing Mr. Barnes, intends to call two witness, including the accused.

A trial readiness hearing has been set for June 16, 2023.

Mr. Barnes's bail was subsequently extended while Mr. McDonald was further remanded.

Justice Vinette Graham Allen suggested that Mr. McDonald be tried for the murder of his first wife, Marlene, on January 25, 2024.

The prosecution is to disclose the indictment, dated January 29, 2021, to the defence by Friday, October 7.

A case management hearing was subsequently set for January 25, 2024.
