Driver jumps from vehicle containing US$1.4 million worth of ganja

By Clinton McGregor

The Narcotics Police are searching for a driver who jumped from a vehicle, leaving behind more than $200 million worth of compressed ganja in Portmore, St. Catherine.

Investigators say 1,100 pounds of compressed ganja with a street value of US$1.4 million was seized on East-West Toll Road on Highway 2000 on Tuesday.

About 8:30 p.m., the narcotics police intercepted a red Honda Step Wagon motor car just as it was approaching the Portmore exit.

The driver of the vehicle disobeyed the police's instruction to stop and sped away.

During the subsequent car chase, the driver abandoned the vehicle along the roadway in the vicinity of the Ackee Walk filter road and escaped on foot in the nearby mangroves.
