Finance Minister meets with disgruntled JIS workers

By Halshane Burke

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has met with staff of the Jamaica Information Service.

The meeting followed industrial action today by scores of technical officers who are reportedly upset over what has been proposed for their alignment under the ongoing restructuring of the public sector.

The minister reportedly assured staff that the discussions are continuing and their concerns will be taken into account.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News this morning, President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) O'Neil Grant had said the workers want the union to be a party to the discussions with the Finance Ministry.

He said the workers do not believe the management is satisfactorily advocating on their behalf.
