‘I want that baby’ - Mother of miracle babies wants to adopt child abandoned on fence

A mother of two, who claims doctors told her she would never conceive because of her many medical issues, wants to open her house to a child she has never met.

The woman, Samantha Gardner, says she has fallen in love with a newborn, who was abandoned in Vineyard Town, Kingston. She is hoping to get the opportunity to adopt the baby and take her to live with her in the United States of America (USA).

"For years I was trying to conceive, but I have conditions like stage 4 endometriosis, fibroids, polycystic ovaries and other conditions that blocked me from getting pregnant. That was a really difficult and depressing time for me because doctors gave up on me. Is God himself really made this happen for me and I am really grateful. And to know that I had difficulty conceiving, then hearing about these babies being abandoned by their mothers really hurts," Gardner told THE WEEKEND STAR.

The newborn in question was found on the side of a fence on May 3 by Shane Briscoe, a resident of Vineyard Town. The newborn was found in a bloody bag with her umbilical cord still attached. Her tiny body was covered with ants and insect bite marks. Briscoe took the child to the Bustamante Hospital for Children, where she was treated and thereafter placed in the custody of the State.

The Jamaica-born Gardner, who is a gospel artiste, said the child could get a lot of opportunities if she grows up in the USA.

"She could go straight through to university, and Jamaica is very rough when it comes to education, as it can be really expensive. She would have good health insurance, and she would just be exposed to a lot of opportunities; and most importantly, she would be well loved," Gardner said.

In addition to having an eight-month-old daughter, Gardner is also mother to a six-year-old boy.

"I wouldn't mind getting her, because right now my daughter is eight months and I have a lot of baby girl stuff that she has never worn, as she already passed that stage," she said.

Under Jamaican laws, the Adoption Board has responsibility for the adoption of children. This process is overseen by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA).

Gardner said that she does not know how to start the adoption process and is hoping that this article may catch the attention of the CPFSA.

She told THE WEEKEND STAR that while it is her desire to adopt the Vineyard Town baby, she would be prepared to accept another child.

"There are lots of children out there who need a mother and I am ideal to take on that role. I own my own house and is in a suitable-paying job. I am already a mother and I am also a notary, so it's not like I am seeking a baby to get monetary gain or anything. I just want to help a child," Gardner said.
