Industrial action at JPS averted

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is reporting that industrial action at the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has been averted following a meeting at the ministry.

In a media release on Thursday, the Labour Ministry said it received reports that technicians and line staff employed to the JPS were restive.

This followed a breakdown in wage talks between the company and the workers represented by the National Workers Union (NWU) and the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU).

The Ministry of Labour said the parties reached an agreement at midnight following several hours of conciliation talks.

Labour Minister Karl Samuda commended the parties on the maturity in handling the discussions that facilitated the settlement of the protracted negotiations.
