Jamaica Broilers announces price cuts for some products

Jamaica Broilers Group has announced price cuts for some of its products, citing improvements in global market conditions.

The adjustments take effect on Thursday.

The prices for The Best Dressed Chicken Grade-A Whole Bird and mixed parts will be reduced by $12.50 per kilogramme.

Group President and CEO of Jamaica Broilers Christopher Levy said the decision is driven by stability in the supply of grains, foreign exchange and shipping costs.

Mr. Levy believes there is a cooling of global inflationary pressures, pushed by the "depth" of global economies including China and the UK.

He said, despite there remaining a "tremendous amount of risk", the current global market condition is a boost for Jamaica's economy, so the country must "take the little basics when you can get them".

Because of the ongoing risk, Mr. Levy admitted that the situation could be a "totally different conversation" in the next six months.

However, he said the company acted on the current improvements in the market because it "felt it's the right thing to do".
